The fire was reported to be spreading rapidly near homes. It destroyed 25 acres, including one RV, and damaged multiple structures, according to the Sweet Home Fire District.
The fire started beneath the pick-up truck, which was able to escape the area undamaged, officials said. The flames then spread to a nearby RV and into grasslands, as well as brush and heavy timber.
Level 3 evacuation orders were issued for nearby residents. The evacuation level was reduced to level 1, and remains in place Tuesday as crews continue mopping up.
The fire is currently 60% contained and expected to be fully contained by late Tuesday, according to the fire district.
Sweet Home crews were assisted by the Oregon Department of Forestry South Cascade District as well as fire personnel from Brownsville, Halsey, Lebanon, Scio and Albany. The Linn County Sheriff’s Office and Sweet Home Police conducted evacuations.
