Fire breaks out at San Francisco garbage collection center

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The San Francisco Fire Department responded Monday to a fire inside Recology San Francisco, according to fire officials.

Fire crews were dispatched at 11:52 a.m. to the garbage collection center on 501 Tunnel Avenue. Arriving firefighters were directed by employees to a metal debris pile in the construction recycling area, SFFD said.

The one-alarm blaze was contained by 12:35 p.m.

Firefighters will remain at Recology San Francisco to continue extinguishing hot spots. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
