Driver in custody after fiery Holmes County crash

HOLMES COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A man turned himself in to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office after a fiery crash killed one person and injured another.

Holmes County Sheriff Willie March said Radarius Smith, 24, turned himself in on August 25, 2025. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and booked into the Holmes County Jail.

The fiery crash occurred on Ebenezer Pickens Road on August 9, 2025. March said witnesses reported that one car was trying to pass the other, but it didn’t make it back into the lane in time.

One driver, Dwain Pelison, Jr., was unable to escape, and he died at the scene.

The sheriff said Smith left his passenger behind and fled the scene. The passenger was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
