BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Governor Jeff Landry announced that a coordinated effort between federal, state, and local law enforcement has resulted in over 100 arrests for violent crime in Baton Rouge.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at reducing crime rates in the area, marking a significant step in addressing public safety concerns.

Attorney General Liz Murrill emphasized the importance of collaboration among law enforcement agencies, stating, “I think that the collaboration that we’re seeing among law today is the model that we are looking to replicate across the entire state.”

A new multi-agency task force has been established to combat child exploitation.

Murrill highlighted the alarming increase in cyber tips over the years, which have surged from 800 in 2013 to over 13,000 last year, making it easier for predators to exploit children.

Meanwhile, discussions about a potential special legislative session are underway, with state lawmakers advised to keep their calendars clear for a session likely focusing on redistricting between October 23rd and November 13th.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell is set to appear in magistrate court on Sept. 10, facing 18 charges, including conspiracy, wire fraud, and obstruction of justice related to an alleged romantic involvement with her bodyguard, Jeffrie Vappie.

Former Louisiana House Speaker Joe Salter, known for his role in the state’s post-Katrina recovery efforts, has passed away at the age of 82 after a long battle with kidney cancer.
