According to Utah Highway Patrol, the backhoe was being escorted by a pickup truck on eastbound SR-40 near mile post 154, by Ashley Creek Street.
Both vehicles were attempting a lefthand turn when a Toyota Camry attempted to pass them, despite the area being a no-passing zone. The Camry struck the rear bucket of the backhoe, overturning the farm equipment.
The operater of the backhoe sustained minor injuries.
The single male driver of the Camry was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. He was then life-flighted to Salt Lake City where he later died from his injuries.
Utah Highway Patrol has yet to release the driver’s identity.
No additional injuries were reported.
