Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA) CEO, Mandi Mitchell, said they have teamed up with St. Martin Parish Economic Development Authority, the City of Broussard, and the Louisiana Workforce Commission to help displaced employees find other opportunities in the region.
“While we are saddened to have received this news from SafeSource executives, we are encouraged by the response from other local employers who have begun to express interest in offering opportunities to the talented individuals who will be affected.” Mitchell said. “This situation reinforces the importance of supporting domestic manufacturing capabilities, particularly in critical sectors like healthcare supplies.”
SafeSource Direct, launched in 2021 as a joint venture with Ochsner Health System, has been protective equipment (PPE) supply chain. According to their website, SafeSource Direct shared what lead to this decision and their mission for the future.
“Like many in our industry, we have faced significant market challenges and made the difficult decision to suspend PPE manufacturing operations until market conditions improve.” SafeSource said. “We are continuing construction of the NBR facility. We are deeply proud of what has been built and grateful to all those who contributed to our mission.”
LEDA and the St. Martin Parish Economic Development Authority said they will connect displaced workers with comparable job opportunities at other local employer and previously scheduled regional job fairs.
“We are in discussions regarding the possibility of hosting a specialty job fair to connect SafeSource employees with local manufacturers who can utilize their specialized skills and experience
