According to the Louisiana State Police, the fire has been 90% contained. They said response crews have worked diligently to strengthen containment and support recovery efforts. Contractors are staged along the Tangipahoa River to trap and recover product released in the explosion.
No injuries or deaths have been reported.
A wildlife hotline has been established to assist with impacted wildlife reports at 832-514-9663. LSP officials said not to capture or handle impacted wildlife.
LSP officials said Smitty’s is developing a dedicated claims hotline. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available. The hotline will give information on how to submit claims and address community concerns.
The mandatory evacuation order remains in effects for a one-mile radius around the site. A temporary flight restriction is in effect as well three nautical miles around the site and up to 5,000 feet above surface level.
