BOSSIER CITY, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington visited Shriners Children’s Shreveport this week ahead of the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office “Kids Shoot for Youth Charities” event set for October 18, 2025.
During the visit, Whittington toured the historic facility and met with patients and staff to learn more about the hospital’s mission of providing specialized care for children, according to a news release. Established in 1922, Shriners Children’s Shreveport was the first hospital in what would become the Shriners Children’s system.
Among the patients Whittington met was Audrey Lester, a first grader at Legacy Elementary School in Bossier Parish, who is currently undergoing treatment. Audrey shared her dream of becoming a law enforcement officer.
“Meeting Audrey was truly inspiring,” Whittington said in a news release. “Her courage and dream to one day serve in law enforcement reflect the very best of what our future holds. It was an honor to recognize her with a badge as she continues her journey.”
As a gesture of encouragement, Whittington presented Audrey with a temporary Bossier Parish Sheriff’s badge.
Proceeds from the “Kids Shoot for Youth Charities” event will benefit Shriners Children’s Shreveport and other youth-focused organizations.
