BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Former LSU basketball player Shaquille O’Neal plans to invest in the new proposed LSU arena, according to reports.
The Advocate reported that O’Neal aims to become the first investor for the project. The NBA champion said in a statement that LSU in Baton Rouge is deserving of a “world-class arena” and voiced his support for Oak View Group, the developer named as a finalist for the arena.
Timothy J. Leiweke, the CEO of Oak View Group, was indicted in July after allegations of bid rigging. Allegations surrounded an Austin, Texas, college arena.
Louisiana First News has contacted LSU for comment.
