SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Once today’s scattered thunderstorms end, we will see several days of dry weather across the ArkLaTex. We could see two rounds of showers and thunderstorms next week.  The best chance will be towards the end of the week.

Severe weather worries: While we will see a chance for scattered storms during the middle and end of next week, the threat of severe weather will remain minimal.  That means that severe weather is unlikely, but we can’t guarantee that we won’t see any.  If we have any issues, it will likely be with strong thunderstorm winds.

Most models still indicate that we could see a decent amount of rain next week.  The Blend of Models shows that most of the area will receive at least 1” of rain.  It also shows that more than 3” will be possible over the NW edge of the area in McCurtain County.

Tropical Worries:  With Hurricane Erin now moving away from the US Coast, our attention turns to two more disturbances further east in the Atlantic.  We likely will see a Tropical Depression and possibly Tropical Storm Fernand develop northeast of Puerto Rico.  It likely will not threaten the US Coast.  The second disturbance further west will have a small window of opportunity.  It’s looking doubtful that it will develop, and if it does, it too will stay over the Atlantic.  Models continue to indicate that the Gulf will probably remain quiet over the next few weeks.

Today’s Weather Worry Index:  More storms will be possible at times next week. Since they likely won’t pose much of a widespread severe weather threat, I will keep today’s WWI at 2 out of 10.
