NOLA Public Schools enter agreement to split revenue with City of New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — An agreement has been signed between the Orleans Parish School Board and the City of New Orleans to share revenues through the new Cooperative Endeavor Agreement (CEA).

The CEA is a two year agreement that will ensure a portion of fine collected from automated speed enforcement devices, red light cameras and mobile speed cameras in school zones, will benefit public schools in the area.

OPSB officials say the CEA is in compliance with Act 103 of the 2024 Louisiana Legislative Session which required revenue sharing between municipalities.

“By partnering with the City, we’re not only complying with state law but also channeling vital resources back into our classrooms, programs, and facilities. These funds will help us continue providing a high-quality education to every child in New Orleans, while reinforcing the importance of safe driving in school zones,” said OPSB President Katie Baudouin.

As part of the agreement, NOLA-PS will receive 40% of revenues, gross revenue minus vendor costs, while the city will receive 60%.

The money will be split equally to all Type 1, 3 and 5 charter schools and NOLA-PS district-operated schools on a per-pupil basis, using the Feb. 1 student count. School officials NOLA-PS will now operate as a central governing authority to receive and disperse funds monthly.
