“During the investigation, the officer observed a passenger dressed in a manner consistent with prostitution and discovered evidence linking the driver to human trafficking activity,” said the CHP Oakland Area office.
CHP said its officer separated the driver and passenger while they determined that the passenger was being sexually exploited for money.
The unidentified driver faces several charges tied to human trafficking, CHP confirmed.
Potential victims or anyone with information on similar incidents is urged to contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888 or text 233733 with the message “INFO.”
“Human trafficking is a crime that exploits vulnerable individuals and often hides in plain sight,” added CHP in a social media post. “The CHP remains committed to combating this issue through enforcement and community partnerships.”
