Aerospace company closing San Jose plant, cutting dozens of jobs

(KRON) — Defense contractor Northrop Grumman will be shutting down a plant in the South Bay, resulting in the loss of dozens of jobs, state filings indicate. A filing with the Employment Development Department indicates the aerospace manufacturer will be permanently closing its facility on San Ignacio Avenue in San Jose.

The closure will result in the elimination of 78 jobs. The impacted jobs are in the professional scientific and technical services industry, the same categorization the EDD uses for tech industry layoffs.

The Northrop Grumman layoffs were processed on Wednesday and will take effect on Oct. 31, filings indicate.

The job cuts at Northrop Grumman are the latest in an ongoing series of Bay Area tech layoffs. Earlier this week, Cisco and Oracle announced hundreds of Bay Area job cuts.
