Chevron to lay off dozens of workers statewide, including in the Bay Area

(KRON) — Chevron expects to cut dozens of jobs across the state, including in the Bay Area, beginning on July 1. According to a state filing with the Employment Development Department, the global oil producer will cut 31 local jobs in Richmond.

Those potential job cuts include 18 employees at the Chevron Technology Center in Richmond and another 13 at the Chevron Richmond Refinery. State filings also indicate Chevron could cut 14 jobs in Kern County and another 20 jobs in Los Angeles County.

All of the job cuts are characterized as permanent layoffs on the EDD website. Notice of the potential layoffs was given on May 5.

Chevron recently relocated its corporate headquarters from San Ramon in Contra Costa County to Houston, Texas. In April, the oil production giant cut 600 jobs from its former San Ramon HQ.

Earlier this year, Chevron announced that it would be reducing its global workforce by 15% to 20% by the end of 2026.
