MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The Pineville Police Department has charged two teenagers in connection with the July shooting and robbery at Carolina Place Mall that left one person injured.

According to Pineville Police, a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old have both been arrested in connection with the incident.

However, jail records from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office confirm that the 17-year-old suspect has since turned 18 and has been identified as Hezekiah Sahfique Anderson. He was booked into Mecklenburg County Jail and released after posting a $50,000 bond on Thursday.

The charges against Anderson include:

  • Assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury
  • Robbery with a dangerous weapon
  • Conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon
  • Possession of a firearm by a minor
  • Discharging a firearm within city limits

The second suspect, a 16-year-old, is facing:

  • Robbery with a dangerous weapon
  • Conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon

The incident happened just before 6:45 p.m. on July 11 in the parking lot near the mall’s food court and Barnes & Noble.

A Pineville officer nearby heard a gunshot and responded, finding a victim with a gunshot wound to the leg. The officer used a tourniquet to help control the bleeding before medics arrived. The victim was taken to the hospital and is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

The Pineville Police Department said it’s not looking for any additional suspects.
