Special Olympics Kansas previews new sport, upcoming events

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Ashley Pippin with Special Olympics Kansas (SOKS) joined the 27 News Morning Show to discuss upcoming events and fundraising efforts.

On Friday, Aug. 22, SOKS will be holding its “Cops at Donut Shops” fundraiser. Pippin said that every Dunkin’ location in Kansas will have local law enforcement as part of the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run.

“It’s great to get the whole community involved because that’s what Special Olympics is all about is inclusion,” Pippin said.

Pippin said SOKS has a lot of upcoming regional events for the north-central region athletes. Pippin also mentioned regional cornhole, which is a new sport being brought on for the first time.

“It’s a really easy sport to bring on too, like anybody can participate in that and we have a lot of athletes really excited about it,” Pippin said.

Pippin said SOKS is always looking for volunteers. You can register to become a volunteer by clicking here. To learn more about upcoming events, click here.
