According to ALEA, the single-vehicle crash occurred on Monday at approximately 5:28 p.m., when a 2015 Dodge Challenger driven by 23-year-old Trevor L. Woods left the roadway, struck a tree and overturned.
The crash happened near the intersection of Fontaine Road and 6th Place South, approximately six miles north of Fort Mitchell, in Russell County.

ALEA says Woods was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Before the crash occurred, Woods was attempting to elude law enforcement and was being pursued by an officer with the Phenix City Police Department.
Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Highway Patrol Division are continuing their investigation into the crash.
