District 71’s Stan Lambert announces retirement from Texas Legislature

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – HD 71 State Rep. Stan Lambert, who has represented House District 71 since 2016, announced Thursday he will not seek re-election and will retire at the end of his current term.

“After careful thought and prayerful consideration, I have made the decision not to seek re-election and will retire from the Texas House of Representatives at the conclusion of my current term,” Rep. Lambert said in a statement.

The Abilene native said serving the Big Country in the Legislature has been among the greatest honors of his life. Since his first election eight years ago, Representative Lambert said he has worked to strengthen public education, protect water resources, invest in rural infrastructure, and support families across West Texas.

Quoting President George H.W. Bush’s line that “public service is a noble calling,” Rep. Lambert said he was grateful for the opportunity to answer that call close to home.

“I’ve always believed in the strength, grit, and resilience of our West Texas communities,” he said. “I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished — together.”

Representative Lambert thanked his legislative colleagues, staff, and constituents, while giving special recognition to his wife, Debbie, “whose steadfast love and unwavering support made every moment of service possible.”

He said he looks forward to spending more time with family and continuing to serve the community in other ways.

“Thank you for the distinct honor of allowing me to serve you,” he said.
