Another staff member at Rivercrest Elementary in Hudson accused of inappropriate relationship with child

2nd Hudson teacher charged with child sex crimes

A second staff member at Rivercrest Elementary School in Hudson has been accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Abigail Faust is charged with failure to protect a child, causing mental harm to a child, child enticement and sexual misconduct by school staff.

According to a criminal complaint, while authorities were at the school investigating Madison Bergmann, a teacher who was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student, they were alerted to concerning behavior by Faust in May of 2024.

A student aide told police she had noticed “red flags” and that Faust seemed to be very close with a child.

The mother of the child Bergmann assaulted told police that her son had heard about the inappropriate relationship between Faust and the second child. Faust had reportedly told the second boy not to tell anyone.

A college friend of Faust’s said she had filed a CPS complaint after Faust told her about her inappropriate relationship with the child.

Authorities also found text messages between Bergmann and Faust discussing their relationships with the children.

The child shared with a therapist and wrote in his journal that Faust had kissed him and would force him to give her hugs.

In a statement sent to ABC-affiliate WQOW, the Hudson School District said that Faust resigned from her position in May of 2024. The district said it fully cooperated with law enforcement.

The statement reads, in part:

“We recognize that trust is essential in our school community, and we remain committed to providing a safe learning environment for every student. Over the past year, the Hudson School District has strengthened training for staff on professional boundaries with students. A committee of administrators and staff partnered with Wisconsin Awareness to Action, a child sexual abuse prevention organization, to review and refine District policies and procedures that reinforce staff expectations regarding professional boundaries. Additionally, the District has increased communication with families to ensure they understand the expectations and restrictions governing staff interactions with students, both during and outside of the school day.

This news can impact our students and staff in unexpected ways. Going forward, the School District is committed to providing any needed support to our students and staff as they process this information.”
