Abilene Zoo’s Caribbean Cove exhibit is about to open!

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – After months of renovation and construction, the Abilene Zoo is set to debut its brand-new Caribbean Cove exhibit this Friday.

The reimagined exhibit opens August 22, featuring expanded habitats, new species, and visitor-friendly improvements. Habitats have grown by more than 200% and now include warming enclosures, ADA-compliant sand diggers, upgraded pathways, and more.

“Caribbean Cove has always been a place where our community could step into a vibrant tropical world,” said Jesse Pottebaum, Director of Abilene Zoo. “With these upgrades and new species, we’re bringing guests closer than ever to tropical wildlife while also sharing important conservation stories.”

Among the residents are two-toed sloths, squirrel monkeys, prehensile-tailed porcupines, three species of toucans, three-banded armadillos, boat-billed herons, and more.
