BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — An investigation into a shooting that left one person hurt ended with the arrest of a Baton Rouge man.

Hitesh Mistry, 23, was charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office (EBRSO) was called to an apartment in the 1600 block of Jade Avenue at 2:15 a.m. on June 24, 2025, to investigate a shooting.

Deputies found one person who was shot and later taken to the hospital. The victim was expected to survive their injuries.

Law enforcement searched the apartment and located blood on the floor.

A witness who was there during the shooting spoke with EBRSO. The deputy found out that the shooting victim was staying overnight at the apartment.

At some point, Mistry arrived at the apartment and got into a fight with the victim, who was shot during the argument in the kitchen, EBRSO said.

According to an affidavit, Mistry left the scene in a vehicle. A witness was shown a photo and was able to identify Mistry.

The Baton Rouge man was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Tuesday, Aug. 19.
