According to the Great Basin Incident Management Team 2, crews carried out the operation on the east side of the fire between Magleby and Elk Country. The fire has reached over 80% containment but continues to burn at over 70,000 acres.
Fire officials say fuels have dried out since the last rainfall doused the area, leading to smoke production increasing Tuesday. However, no perimeter growth in expected under current conditions.
“Rocky Mountain Power is repairing distribution lines along Bear Valley Road,” Team 2 said in a press release Wednesday. “A surge in the arrival of heavy equipment will assist in suppression repair around the entire burn area to make it safer for the firefighters who are working in the area as well as the public when the closures are lifted.”
Weather patterns suggest a chance of wetting rain could assist with fire suppression efforts, the team said. “The current weather is creating conditions that will be prime for burning throughout the day, testing our work as fuel moisture dries out.”
Crews say a new containment line was added between Flat Canyon and Vale Creek.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Over 700 total personnel are reported on scene of the blaze.
