Cook County Sheriff’s police did not provide specific details on when the incident unfolded, but said it all began after officers attempted to stop a red Chevrolet Impala in River North for allegedly having illegally tinted windows.
Shortly after the officers activated their emergency lights, the vehicle allegedly sped away before the driver eventually came to a stop in an alley in the 500 block of North LaSalle Boulevard.
After stopping, authorities ordered the driver to turn off the vehicle and roll down the windows, while the passengers were asked to get out.
Following a search of all five people inside the car, authorities said 19-year-old Zavion Bellamy and 18-year-old Adayveon Young were allegedly found with loaded 9mm handguns that were equipped with extended magazines, while 19-year-old Zion Bellamy and 18-year-old Jermel Rogers were allegedly found with loaded 9mm handguns.
Amid the search, officers also uncovered a fifth gun from beneath the front passenger seat, a loaded .40 caliber handgun equipped with an extended magazine.
After being taken into custody, officers said 22-year-old Trajhan Young allegedly told officers that the fifth gun was his.
Authorities said in total, more than 100 rounds of ammunition and over 20 grams of marijuana were allegedly recovered during the stop.
Officers said none of the suspects had a valid FOID or CCL and they were all taken into custody following the stop.
Charges against all five are currently pending.
