Frontenac police said officers were called to the report of a “piece of metal in the road” late Monday night. When the police arrived, they soon discovered that what they thought might be a piece of guttering or scrap metal that had fallen off a truck was a much bigger problem.
A safe, weighing approximately one ton, was sitting in the middle of the southbound lanes of a railroad overpass on the outskirts of the town. An investigation determined that the safe had been stolen in nearby Pittsburg.
It’s unknown yet how it ended up in the middle of the street. Frontenac police are working with the Pittsburg Police Department, and the safe will be returned to its owner.
There’s no word yet if any arrests have been made.
