Video: San Francisco Sheriff uses Taser on man carrying handle-less scissors

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — San Francisco Sheriff Paul Miyamoto used a Taser to bring down a man who was “acting erratically” and avoiding authorities while carrying an unknown weapon through the streets of San Francisco Monday, the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office said.

“[The San Francisco Sheriff’s Office] joined with [the San Francisco Police Department] this morning on a foot pursuit that began at Sacramento and Polk streets to apprehend a man who was acting erratically and armed with what appeared to be a knife,” SFSO said.

SFPD officers followed the man for more than a mile, attempting to stop him with less-lethal projectiles and pepper spray. However, the weapons were ineffective, SFSO said.

At that time, Miyamoto was headed to the San Francisco County Jail and overheard the pursuit on his dispatch radio. Responding to the chase, Miyamoto found the suspect at the intersection of 6th and Clementina Streets. Miyamoto and SFSO Deputy B. Lau fired Taser guns at the man, hitting him and dropping him to the ground.

The man was arrested. Authorities searched the man and found a pair of scissors without handles in his hand. No other details were provided regarding the arrest.
