Kevin Owen Miller, 51, was arraigned in Clackamas County on charges of first-degree aggravated theft, criminal conspiracy, three counts of first-degree criminal mischief, possession of a stolen vehicle, and three counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle.
His arrest comes a month after another man accused in the same heist, 32-year-old Matthew Evan Armour, was arraigned on similar charges, according to the Clackamas County Attorney General’s Office.
The charges stem from an early morning burglary on June 23 at the U.S. Bank along Southeast Sunnyside Road in Clackamas.
“Miller and Armour are accused of driving a stolen pickup truck to an area near the US Bank branch, stealing a Caterpillar 315 excavator from a construction site and using the excavator to demolish an ATM and access a large amount of cash,” the AG’s office said.
Deputies found the excavator, which had been stolen from a nearby construction site and driven to the bank, still running and abandoned near the ATM drive-through when they arrived, according to authorities.
The thief or thieves then “used the excavator’s boom arm to destroy two ATM housings, causing damage to the U.S. Bank building in the process,” CCSO said in a statement. A nearby parked SUV also had a broken window.
Miller is being held at the Clackamas County Jail on $40,000 bail. His next Clackamas County Court appearance is Sept. 17
Armour is being held for $60,000, officials said, noting he is also being held on a parole violation.
