According to Governor Newsom’s Press Office, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services approved the predeployment of firefighting resources in Los Angeles County on Tuesday.
This was done in response to elevated heat, fire and weather conditions forecasted to impact Southern California from Wednesday through Saturday.
There is a “high risk for heat illness and fire danger,” according to the National Weather Service.
“Extreme summer weather is returning to California this week,” said Governor Newsom. “Now is the time to check the forecasts for your area and prepare for higher temperatures and dangerous fire weather. While the best thing we can all do is prepare now, the state is also pre-deploying resources to protect communities from catastrophic wildfires.”
The resources that were deployed include 10 fire engines, two bulldozers, two water tenders, two hand crews, one helicopter, one Incident Management Team and three dispatchers.
CAL FIRE is also prepared for statewide emergencies.
“CAL FIRE remains fully staffed and prepared across the state as we anticipate increased temperatures. Our dedicated team is committed to safeguarding communities and minimizing wildfire risk,” said CAL FIRE Chief Joe Tyler.
Californians are urged to be mindful of the heightened heat and fire weather period. Visit Cal Heat Score to find heat safety information in specific areas and Ready California for fire safety and preparedness.
