According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the crash occurred near the 119-mile marker on I-70 eastbound in Henry County. This is a few miles east of Knightstown.
According to the Knightstown Fire Department, the incident involved four vehicles, including the school bus. A total of three individuals were transported from the scene to an area hospital, while another was transported to a hospital based in Indianapolis.
“This was a significant incident that required the combined efforts of multiple local and state agencies,” said Lt. Kaleb Buchanan with the Knightstown Fire Department. “We appreciate the cooperation of the public as crews work to ensure safety and reopen the roadway.”
As of this article’s publication, their conditions are unknown. All eastbound lanes had been closed for approximately two hours as first responders arrived to investigate and clean up.
Photos of the aftermath can be viewed below:
INDOT’s alert stated that a school bus had overturned as part of the crash. The school bus is listed as “unoccupied,” meaning no students are reportedly onboard.
Photos of the rolled-over bus show the vehicle is unmarked with no school name or bus number. This means the bus may have been in transport and is not in use by a school corporation.
Indiana State police, New Castle EMS, Shirley Fire Department and Henry County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the scene.
