A 30-year-old woman identified as Joy Sitler was found dead on Saturday on Interstate 70 just west of the State Road 109 interchange, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s office.
According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, around 11:16 p.m. on Friday, officers responded to a residence in Knightstown on a report of a suicidal female.
When officers arrived, the family of the woman, later identified as Sitler, said she had left the house in a gray Honda Insight.
At 11:50 p.m., while police were still at the residence, the Henry County 911 Dispatch received a call that a vehicle was parked in an emergency lane on the Westbound I-70. It was a gray Honda Insight with the same registration as the one Sitler drove away in.
According to police, when they arrived, the vehicle appeared to have been struck by a semi; the driver of the semi did not stop, nor did they report the incident. Police attempted life-saving measures before Sitler was pronounced dead.
The Indiana State Police and Henry County Sheriff’s Office are still actively investigating the crash.
