Louisiana National Guard deployed to Washington D.C. for law enforcement support, Governor Landry announces

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Governor Jeff Landry approved the deployment of the Louisiana National Guard (LANG) to Washington, D.C., on Monday.

According to a news release, LANG is being activated to assist and support the Metropolitan Police Department, the District of Columbia National Guard, and the D.C. local law enforcement to protect federal buildings, national monuments, and other federal properties.

“Louisiana Guardsmen are trained and ready to support the District of Columbia. Our Guardsmen mobilized quickly upon order, displaying efficiency, professionalism, and an understanding of what it means to serve in the Guard. Answering the call of our Nation is an honor and a privilege,” said Louisiana adjutant general, Maj. Gen. Thomas Friloux.

“I have approved the deployment of approximately 135 [Louisiana National Guard] soldiers to Washington, D.C. to assist in President [Donald Trump]’s mission of restoring safety and peace in our nation’s capital,” Landry said in a social media post. “We are a nation of law and order. Our capital is a reflection of our nation’s respect, beauty, and standards. We cannot allow our cities to be overcome by violence and lawlessness. I am proud to support this mission to return safety and sanity to Washington, DC, and cities all across our country, including right here in Louisiana.”
