Heating back up through midweek, but monsoon moisture returns late-week

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Monday, Utah! Our Monday will feature plenty of sunshine and warmer temperatures. Highs will warm into the low to mid 90s along the Wasatch Front, with highs warming near 100° for southwest Utah. Due to high pressure in the upper levels overhead, this means we will stay dry with any rain chance well to our north and east.

Tuesday will feature mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will once again tick up a notch, climbing into the mid to upper 90s for the Wasatch Front, with highs climbing into the lower 100s across SW Utah. High pressure will still be near or over the area, so we will keep things dry and calm Tuesday afternoon.

Wednesday brings the hottest temperatures of the week. While there are currently not heat alerts in effect for the area, we could see some issued for parts of the Beehive state in the coming days. Highs will likely warm to near 100 for parts of the Wasatch Front by midweek, with highs warming closer to 105+ for SW Utah. We will also see a bit of an uptick in humidity levels as moisture in the atmosphere begins to increase. This will likely lead to a few extra clouds in the sky, but still should remain mostly dry across the area.

Later this week, high pressure will continue to slide to our east, allowing a surge of monsoon moisture to return across the region. This means increasing chances of rain starting Thursday and ramping up Friday through the upcoming weekend. Some of these scattered showers and storms could produce some decent downpours which could lead to some flash flooding issues across our state and national parks. High temperatures will cool back into the mid 90s for the Wasatch Front late week, with highs still 105-110 for SW Utah.

Long range, not seeing any big cool downs over the next 10-20 days, but we could begin to take the edge off the big-time heat next week. Finger’s crossed!
