Athletic Director Steve Rodecap announced Friday night that the school has extended head football coach Garin Higgins through 2028. The announcement came during the annual booster night scrimmage on Aug. 15.
“This place means a great deal to me because this is where I got my start,” Higgins said Friday night. “I love the university. We’ve done a lot of great things here with hard work, but there’s a lot of unfinished business.”
The three-year agreement is the longest extension allowed by the Kansas Board of Regents.
Higgins became the 22nd head coach in program history in December 2006 and is the winningest active coach in the MIAA, and his 113 victories rank fifth all-time in Association history.
“This extension reflects our commitment to sustaining success at the highest level,” Rodecap said. “The one thing this program has figured out, better than anywhere that I have seen, is culture. The culture in this program is outstanding, and it is because of Coach Higgins.”
