“Several areas across the Beulah Fire received between 0.3 and 0.6 inches of rain, with the east side seeing the most rain,” an incident update from the Great Basin Complex Incident Management Team 4 states. “While recent rainfall has provided some relief across the fire perimeter by decreasing fire behavior and slowing growth, the extremely dry fuels mean this moisture will only offer temporary benefit.”
The potential for increased fire activity continues to rise amid high temperatures and dry vegetation. A strong warming and drying trend is expected to start tomorrow, Aug. 18, and continue through Wednesday, fire officials said.
Predictive Services at the National Interagency Coordination Center has issued a Fuels and Fire Behavior Advisory through Aug. 27. The area is experiencing ongoing drought with critically dry conditions and the potential for “extreme fire behavior.”
“Crews and heavy equipment continue to be instrumental in protection efforts. Firefighters established line along Mill Creek Road yesterday,” Sunday’s incident update states. “Assessment efforts are ongoing in Manorlands, Uintalands, and Monviso. Although aviation activity was limited yesterday due to weather, aerial resources remain in place to support on the ground efforts.”
On Saturday, fire personnel saw the most significant fire behavior on a small spot fire to the east of the main fire perimeter. Fire activity is expected to pick back up later today, officials said. Crews will reportedly continue preparing line in the Christmas Meadows Valley.
An infrared flight provided accurate mapping that shows minimal fire growth of 231 acres over the past few days.
