Unsettled Saturday with lingering storms, drier Sunday with rebounding temps

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy weekend, Utah! We have lingering moist air overhead and the threat of isolated storms holds on for the beginning of the weekend.

The biggest threat for thunderstorms will be east of I-15, but cities along I-15 from Salt Lake to St. George will still see a few storms pop up. Flash flooding will be possible for all the outdoor recreation areas in southern Utah, so if you plan on visiting the parks make sure you stay on higher ground as flash flooding can occur even if it isn’t raining overhead. Better yet, reschedule for Sunday as things dry out.

Sunday will feature clear to partly cloudy skies and a slight chance for precipitation, but southerly winds should keep it just north of the Utah-Idaho state line. The Uinta Mountains and other mountainous regions could see a brief shower pop up, but nothing too concerning. Breezy conditions hold on through the weekend, but now that we have a bit of moisture, the fire threat won’t be as high.

Temperatures take a step back over the weekend, bringing us within a few degrees of seasonal norms. Daytime highs will be in the upper 80s to low 90s in valleys, low to mid 80s in higher terrain, and mid 90s in the typically warmer spots. By Monday we’re looking at sunny conditions with warming temperatures. By the midweek we’ll be flirting with triple-digits in valleys again.

The bottom line? An unsettled weekend ahead of us with lingering moisture allowing for isolated storms Saturday and drier air moving in by Sunday.
