Showers and T-storms for some before clearing out
If we do see showers, they’ll be light and brief. On the other hand, eastern Utah stays locked in with scattered showers, especially south of I-70. Storms shouldn’t be too strong, but the threat of flash flooding does exist for some outdoor recreation areas in south-central and southeastern Utah. Most of our parks are under a “Possible” threat for flash flooding, with the exception of Glen Canyon, Zion, and Red Cliffs.
Apart from the slight chance of a brief light morning shower, the Wasatch Front down to St. George will see mostly sunny skies with clearing clouds through the afternoon. Temperatures will be right around average with daytime highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s for most of the state, while St. George runs warmer in the mid 70s. Overnight lows will fall into the upper 30s to low 40s.
High pressure builds on Friday which will push the wet weather out and usher in clear skies across the state with temperatures still remaining around average. The winds of change knock on our door this Saturday. We’ll kick off the weekend with a warm southerly wind and valley temperatures warming up to the upper 60s and low 70s ahead of an incoming cold front.
Moisture will begin filling in as the front approaches, but the Sierra Nevada Range will eat most of the initial moisture, so we expect mostly cloudy skies on Saturday with a slight chance of rain late Saturday night. The front moves in early Sunday morning, spelling scattered showers and a couple rumbles of thunder in the north. The front could drop temperatures enough to see periods of snow in mountain valleys Sunday.
If we’re lucky, we may see snowflakes mix in with rain on the upper benches above 6,000 feet. Southern Utah will remain largely unaffected apart from an increase in cloud coverage. Sunday’s temperatures will drop by about 15 degrees from Thursday’s in northern valleys, topping out in the 50s. Isolated showers and chilly weather will stick around on Monday for the north but should clear out by Tuesday.
We’ll keep you posted on the latest developments with this evolving weekend storm in our 4Warn Weather forecast both on-air and online, we are Good4Utah!
