SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A man charged with a 2022 Springdale nightclub murder likely will miss his August court hearing after being deported, prosecutors say.
Jose Reyes-Sanchez, 26, is charged with capital murder in the death of 19-year-old Luis Lemus, who was shot multiple times outside a Springdale nightclub on Aug. 28, 2022, at Zabana Night Club located at 2323 S. Old Missouri Road.
Reyes-Sanchez had a trial scheduled to begin Aug. 25.
However, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement had a federal detainer for Reyes-Sanchez and chose to deport him to El Salvador last week, according to Denis Dean, chief deputy prosecuting attorney.
Dean said a bench warrant has been issued for Reyes-Sanchez, and if he ever returns to the U.S., he will be prosecuted for murder.
Reyes-Sanchez was arrested on March 24 in connection to Lemus’ death. A suspected MS-13 gang member, the Salvadorian had previously been deported but returned to the U.S. Authorities say he has ties to Kansas, Texas, Missouri and New York City.
