LPD: 1 dead after person struck by train

LAWRENCE, Ind. — A person was pronounced dead after they were reportedly struck by a train in Lawrence on Thursday morning.

According to officials with the Lawrence Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area of the 4800 block of Bechtold Avenue at around 8:55 a.m. on Thursday on a report of a person struck by a train.

When law enforcement arrived on the scene, they reportedly located a dead person. A news release from the department stated that it “appears to be a tragic accident with no signs of anything criminal.”

The Marion County Coroner’s Office stated that the individual is pending positive identification and is working to identify next of kin.
