NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Aug. 16, 2025, makes a year since the WGNO family lost our long time Sports Director, Ed Daniels at the age of 67.

His presence had a big impact both at the station for over 30 years and on the New Orleans community.

Ed was the creator of Friday Night Football, which he hosted alongside John Curtis Christian School Football Coach JT Curtis.

Recently, Ed was inducted posthumously into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame for his years of dedication and accomplishments.

Since his passing, Ed has been inducted into Loyola’s Den of Distinction and has had the Muss Bertolino Stadium field renamed in his honor.

His alma mater, Archbishop Rummel High School, created the Ed Daniels Memorial Scholarship to raise funds for future Raiders.

Ed is missed dearly by family, friends, colleagues and Louisiana sports lovers.

Please enjoy the tribute above created by Ed’s friend and WGNO’s Chief Editor Paul Milhet.
