Teresa Smith announces bid for re-election for Baxter County Collector

Baxter County Collector Teresa Smith has announced her candidacy for re-election in 2026. Smith spoke with KTLO News and was asked why she announced her re-election bid for Baxter County.

Smith first took office in 2015 and implies that the time has gone by quickly and she is grateful the people of Baxter County have given her their support and backed her in the different changes she’s made in the office. When asked what she is most proud of, Smith lists some of the changes she has made to the way the office runs.

In her final thoughts Smith was again appreciative of the support her office has received and “would respectfully ask for support as I go into the 2026 election cycle”.

Smith, who was first elected in 2014, said she remains focused on providing courteous, efficient and effective service in the Collector’s Office. Smith has held several positions within professional organizations. In 2018, she was elected to the Collectors Association Continuing Education Board. In 2020, she was elected to the Collectors Association Executive Board, where she has served as second vice president and currently serves as first vice president. In 2023, she was appointed to the Association of Arkansas Counties’ Legislative Committee for the Collectors Association, where she continues to serve. From 2020 to June 2025, she served as first vice president on the C.A.S.T. Committee, stepping down due to a change in software providers.

Smith is a lifelong Republican and a native of Baxter County. She is married to Monte Smith, and the couple has three children and four grandchildren. She also has three dogs and six grand dogs.
