T.S. Erin to become a hurricane in a few days

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – There have been a few changes with Tropical Storm Erin since yesterday.  It continues to move quickly toward the west, and its intensity has not changed.  Erin could become a hurricane by the end of the week.

Erin NHC outlook: The latest forecast track on Erin issued by the National Hurricane Center has not changed much since yesterday.  It appears that as the storm moves over warmer water, it will begin to strengthen in the next day or so and could become a major hurricane sometime this weekend.  It still appears that we will see a turn toward the northwest late this week and a turn toward the north early next week.  If this course verifies, it means the impact on the US coast would be minimal as Erin tracks between Bermuda and the US East Coast. Changes are still possible, stay tuned!

ArkLaTex worries:  Given the dry weather that most of the ArkLaTex has experienced over the past few weeks, most of us are hoping for some rain.  We will continue to see the chance for isolated to scattered storms through Friday and again late next week.  While a few storms could bring some gusty winds, severe weather is looking unlikely.  When it’s not raining, it will be hot.  So be sure to take precautions to protect yourself from the heat and humidity. The heat index could exceed 105 at times during the next 10 days.

Weather Worry Index for the next 10 days:  2 out of 10: Today’s WWI for the next ten days will remain at 2 out of 10.  Be aware of the chance of some gusty thunderstorm winds and of the very hot temperatures.  The heat could reach its peak this weekend.
