Kleider Enrique Garcia Ochoa, 30, was formally charged with attempted enticement of a minor and attempted transfer of obscene material to a minor. He pleaded not guilty to charges.
The Department of Justice said Ochoa used social media apps in March to try to convince someone he believed to be a 15-year-old Baton Rouge teen to engage in an illegal sexual relationship. He allegedly transferred obscene material.
Ochoa was arrested by Livingston Parish deputies earlier this year. Jail records available online show that he remains in the parish detention center on a $200,000 bond.
Federal officials said he faces a minimum of 10 years and up to life in prison, a $250,000 fine, up to a lifetime of supervised release, and would have to register as a sex offender if convicted. The DOJ said he could be deported from the U.S. after his sentence.
