The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office was called to the 5600 block of Cheryl Road around 2:40 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10.

When they arrived, they began an investigation into an attempted murder. As the investigation unfolded, EBRSO learned that Coleman arrived at a home “to confront his live-in girlfriend regarding an ongoing domestic dispute.”

According to the affidavit, the woman tried to get away but was punched by Coleman. She continued to try to get away, at which point Coleman ran her over with his vehicle, EBRSO said.

Authorities said vehicle track marks were around 200 feet from where the woman was hit.

An arrest report alleges the Baton Rouge man then kept the woman from seeking help at a business by blocking her.

Coleman left the scene but was caught soon after by deputies. His vehicle was found in a wooded area not too far away, EBRSO confirmed.

Witnesses stated that Coleman and his girlfriend had a history of domestic violence incidents.

The Baton Rouge man denied hitting his girlfriend with the vehicle.

EBRSO said Coleman had an active warrant for battery of a dating partner through the Baton Rouge Police Department.

The sheriff’s office said he was arrested previously on multiple occasions.
