TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Kansas Department of Transportation will be closing part of I-70 in Topeka this weekend.
Starting at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, KDOT will close westbound I-50 while crews do pavement patching work on the Polk-Quincy Viaduct. The work is expected to end no later than midnight on Sunday, Aug. 17.
The closure will see westbound I-70 shut down from 10th Avenue to MacVicar Avenue. KDOT says the 10th Avenue exit will be the last one open to westbound traffic. The First Street on-ramp to westbound I-70 will stay open.
Signed detours will take drivers south along I-470 or north to K-4 to US-24 to northbound US-75. A local street detour will take drivers down 10th Avenue to Topeka Boulevard to 6th Avenue to MacVicar Avenue to westbound I-70.
KDOT says more closures may happen if more patching is needed.
