On Friday, August 8, 2025, a Caddo Parish jury unanimously found Andre Deshun Gladney, 22, guilty in the March 7, 2022, killing of 19-year-old Taurean Coleman. The verdict came after less than an hour of deliberation in District Judge Ramona Emanuel’s courtroom.
Prosecutors said Gladney and Coleman, friends since middle school, were at Anderson Island Park in central Shreveport when Gladney shot Coleman eight times, including six shots to the back. DNA evidence linked Gladney to the firearm, and Coleman’s blood was found on Gladney’s jacket.
Gladney turned himself in to Shreveport Police later that day, claiming self-defense. Investigators testified that Coleman was unarmed and had no immediate access to a weapon. Gladney later admitted to shooting Coleman but maintained he feared for his life. The jury rejected his claim.
Gladney is scheduled to be sentenced on August 28, 2025, and faces a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
The case, docket No. 387915, was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Senae D. Hall and Courtney N. Ray. Gladney was represented by Eric Johnson and Rachel Bays.
