Guilty plea in stolen F. Scott Fitzgerald statue

The man charged in connection to the theft of a statue of F. Scott Fitzgerald in St. Paul has pleaded guilty.

Dustan Schmitt, 37, pleaded guilty to one count of receivng stolen prooperty and drugs. As part of the deal, other drug and stolen vehicle charges he was previously facing are being dismissed.

The statue outside the former St. Paul Academy on Dale Street North was stolen back in February. Police later said a Northern Metal Recycling employee reported Schmitt was tryin to sell the statue, which had been cut into pieces.

Schmitt’s plea deal calls for five years of probation and for him to pay restitution.

His sentencing is set for October 6.
