(KRON) – An enormous purple egg was hatched at the Chase Center,  revealing the Golden State Valkyries’ new mascot.

At the Valkyries’ halftime against the Connecticut Sun on Monday, a raven broke out of a hatch, unveiling Violet, nicknamed Vi.

The giant egg appeared at the stadium on Thursday, Aug. 7.  With high anticipation of what was inside, the team set up a “Nest Cam,” allowing fans to watch the egg around the clock.

The team chose its mascot to be a raven due to the bird’s proximity to Valkyries in mythology.

Ravens are also known for being clever and playful, which describes Violet’s personality, according to the Valkyries. Violet is also known to be athletic and acrobatic.

The four-eyed mascot sports glasses due to her nearsightedness.
