One dead, one in custody following assault in Bessemer City neighborhood

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — One person is dead and another is in custody following some sort of attack in a Bessemer City neighborhood, authorities announced.

A heavy police presence has been reported at the crime scene, which is located at a residence along New Moon Lane. Officers were called to the area just before 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Gaston County Emergency Communications confirmed with Queen City News that the case has been classified as a homicide. Gaston County Police said one person is dead from “injuries sustained from an assault.” The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time.

Authorities confirmed one person has been taken into custody and “there is no danger or threat to the public.” Multiple agencies responded to the area, including Gaston County Police.

The exact details and circumstances surrounding the murder are unknown at this time.
