Pedestrian killed in early Sunday crash on I-280 in San Jose

(KRON) — A pedestrian was killed early Sunday morning in San Jose after being struck by a car on Interstate 280, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP responded at 2:45 a.m. to southbound Interstate 280, approaching Highway 87, on the report of a pedestrian collision. Arriving first responders found the pedestrian, who authorities said was female, suffering from major injuries. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced deceased at 3:26 a.m., CHP said.

Crash investigators said the driver of a Toyota Corolla was traveling at approximately 65 mph in the far right lane when, for an unknown reason, the pedestrian walked into the roadway. The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene following the collision and was uninjured.

The fatal pedestrian crash was the first of two in San Jose on Sunday. Another pedestrian succumbed to injuries sustained in a vehicle crash that occurred at 10:13 p.m. in the area of South King Road and Aldrich Way.
