Pregnant mother killed in San Jose I-280 crash Thursday

(KRON) — A pregnant mother was ejected from her car and killed Thursday night in a collision on Interstate 280 in San Jose, according to the California Highway Patrol. Two young children inside the vehicle survived.

CHP responded at 7:34 p.m. to southbound I-280 north of Bird Avenue on the report of a two-vehicle collision involving a Honda Civic and a Ford pickup truck. Arriving officers found an unresponsive 25-year-old San Jose woman who had been ejected from the Honda. Emergency personnel began CPR at the scene before she was transported to Valley Medical Center.

Authorities learned at the hospital that the woman was pregnant. “Both the unborn child and mother succumbed to their injuries,” CHP said.

Two children, who CHP said are 2-3 and 5-6 years old, were found inside the crashed Honda. Neither child appeared to have suffered injuries in the collision, according to officials.

Crash investigators said the Honda had crossed all lanes of traffic on I-280 southbound and collided with the Ford truck. The driver and one passenger inside the Ford were uninjured, CHP said.

Three lanes of I-280 were shut down for two hours following the crash.

Any witnesses or persons with information in the fatal collision are asked to contact CHP San Jose at 408-961-0900.
