According to District Attorney Collin Sims’ Office, 63-year-old Oscar Alfred Paysse III, of Mandeville, was found guilty of sexual battery in June. Court documents state that a teenage girl told her mother that a man who lived near them sexually assaulted her years earlier. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office was notified and an investigation was initiated.
According to court documents, the victim said that when she was about 8 years old, Paysse approached her while she was playing in her front yard. Paysse and his family reportedly lived in her neighborhood and Paysse’s daughter occasionally babysat the victim.
Paysse told her he had something in his house he wanted to show her and coaxed her to accompany him there. According to the district attorney’s office, once they entered the house, he brought her to his bedroom and shut the door before proceeding to sexually assault her.
Paysse later moved to Kenner. Following the issuance of the warrant he was arrested by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. He was transferred to the St. Tammany Parish Jail and remained in custody awaiting trial.
The victim’s mother described the emotional trauma Paysse caused her daughter, but said she is resilient and will continue to thrive in life.
